Periapical Cyst

An 18 years old male presented to us with the complaint of pain in upper front tooth.
Patient had a history of trauma in upper front teeth a few years back following which he had got an RCT done.
On examination, a large Periapical cyst was evident in relation to upper right lateral incisor (Image 1) for which a Repeat root canal treatment was planned followed by a crown as a conservative line of treatment.

Root canal treatment (RCT)

Every tooth has got a nerve and blood supply lying in the core of the tooth, which is collectively called “The Pulp”.A root canal treatment is a procedure of saving a tooth with infected pulp. The pulp of a tooth may get infected due to multiple reasons like  deep caries, fracture, deep abrasions, severe attrition , perio-endo infections etc. With the latest developments in dentistry  and  the availability of ultra modern endodontic equipments, an experienced and skillful clinician can deliver an RCT with the success rate as high as 98 %

 Case Summary

The RCT was performed in the concerned tooth followed by Intracanal medicaments’s dressing (Image 2).

Post completion of the treatment, the case was put on semi annual follow up for one and a half year. (Image 3)

An obvious healing was evident on  one and a half year follow up (Image 4) as the  bone formation was evident on the follow up x rays in relation to the cyst region.
